Being a leader is a tough old gig and often it’s a thankless task. Whatever you do or don’t do comes under constant scrutiny.
It’s the football finals this evening and whatever the outcome, today will go down in English history.
I wish Gareth Southgate and the team the best of British. I’ve enjoyed watching his leadership, the way he encourages the team, his gentle yet firm management style and the way he instills real belief in the youngsters. He’s walked this road for himself and I won’t talk about that missed penalty!
Like many of us, I believe that massive and public disappointment has shaped who he is today and the way he goes about the job.
He has crafted this team by being a solid role model, speaking up in his own way and sticking to his beliefs. He has been consistent and shows up a leader. This team would walk 10,000 miles for him why??? because they are fully engaged.
On paper the Italian team are the stronger team, with a much better track record than we have. However we have the home advantage, it’s our time and the atmosphere will be more than electric. It’s historic.
I am rooting for leader Gareth and the team because this team just deserve it in my mind, and great leadership needs a nod ever so often.
Come what may, Gareth Southgate has won already because he has demonstrated the power of the team. The power of an Inclusive and Diverse team. There is no I in team it’s about working together as a cohesive unit and putting ego and bias aside.
I wanna see a great big smile on his face at the end of the game this evening. England are going to have to play out of their skins and that pre match talk will be the one of his life.
To all the Gareth Southgate’s out there in a Leadership position, keep doing what you do and lead putting the team first. Keep honing your skills, many days it won’t be easy, but remember you have the gift to determine the environment and employee experience for the people reporting to you. Under your hands and treatment they will either thrive or wilt.
To Gareth …. Gwan my yoot, mash it up and bring it home.
In my bestest cockney accent ‘Go on my son, you’ve got dis’ 👌
